10:02 pm - Musings on a Wednesday Evening... Well, I know I said I'd add more to my livejournal awhile ago. But, well, there you go. Things are going quite well. My knee is healing smashingly. Today I took like a 4 mile walk just because I felt like it--through Potrero Hill, with all its ups and downs and wonderfulness. Everything is going fine in the leg department. Now I'm tired and about ready for sleeping (I know, I'm an old fart for wanting to sleep at 10pm...).
Work is good. Life is good. I kinda feel like I've lost touch too much with some old friends. Hence the need to post. Pity I don't have more content to go with. Ah well. The musings of an old man I suppose... Current Mood: happy, tired Current Music: Substrata, by Vector Lovers

10:45 pm - Cell Phone Survey... Okay, I know, I haven't posted in like a bajillion years. A bit of a life update to follow, but I'm curious about something. I'm about to get a new cell phone (I think) so I'm researching things, and I want to hear from everyone on the things. Tell me what you like and dislike about yours, and your friends' or whatever. Reviews can be as short as you want, but any and all details are welcome.
Everything goes... cheap, expensive, sylish, rugged, whatever. Let me know... Life update to follow.

04:55 pm - New place... Picture style! So tired. I need to get more than 3 hours of sleep a night. For serious dudes. Here's some already tragically out of date pictures of my new place, but due to circumstances outside of my control up until recently, I haven't been able to post the pictures until now.
Voila! Pictures!
Mayhap I'll take some more soon. :)

02:32 pm - New job, first week So, sorry I haven't posted much this week. I've been keeping crazy busy, and I have no internet access available at my new place. So here's the deal:
Thus far, Apple rocks my socks off. Yes, it is, in fact, awesome , working here. The first week has been a bit weird, because there's all sorts of orientations to go to and what not, and this week was WWDC (Apple's Developer Conference). But I really love my team, and I'm really enjoying Apple so far. We'll see what happens when I actually knuckle down and start doing some work.
As an Apple employee, I get a free .mac account, and so I took a few pictures (and a friend of mine did too) and I put them on my snazzy new account. Pictures!. Take a look. Hehe. Basically, all things rock, but I'm more aggressively looking around for a place that I actually want to stay in. I rather like the idea of staying somewhere on the Peninsula. I'm going to look more seriously into San Mateo, because it'd be relatively easy to get to work, and it'd also be relatively easy to get to Berkeley or San Francisco as well.

11:13 am - Movin' Well, I found a place to live, at least temporarily. I'm going to be moving there on Sunday. It's a quiet little house owned by a nice older artist woman named Judy.
1120 Milky Way Cupertino, CA 95014
I'll be moving down on Sunday, and then I'll start work on Monday. I have a month to month arrangement with her, and I'll be using that as my base of operations to see where I really want to live. I don't think it will be Cupertino--suburbia just isn't my style. Serious possible living considerations are: Living in San Francisco and taking Caltrain down the peninsula to work, or possibly finding a nice place in downtown San Jose. I need a more urban setting to live in I feel.

02:12 am - Movin' Well, today I packed, and this evening I moved. I only moved across town, but it took some doing. It took even more doing because I was helping my friend Evaly move into the same space, and she has a lot of stuff. :)
I miss Kingman already. I really like that place, and I wish I had found it long, long ago. I'm sure I'll be spending an unhealthy amount of time there in the near future--considering that I don't actually live there anymore. I'm here at the place that Evaly and I picked out back when we thought we might be living together (I.E.: That I might be living in Berkeley). It's a nice spot. :) If you're in the neighborhood when I'm around, I can be found at 2600 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Come on by... there's a hot tub! :)

11:56 am - I got it! Job at Apple = me.
Yesterday, as I was at a Japanese restaurant waiting for food with my housemate, my cell phone started ringing. I thought it was my friend Ali, but it was someone in area code 408. Who do I know there? It was Aubrey, my contact person at Apple, saying that though John (my new boss) was out on vacation, he sent one email to her saying "tell Danny we want him to work for us, it's an official offer, I'll work out the details over the next few days".
I made it. I got it. I'm so excited I don't even know what to do... YES! Current Mood: amazingly good Current Music: Tables and Chairs, by Andrew Bird

02:42 am - Job update Well, it appears that I'm still in the running for a job at Apple. From what I understand, there are bureaucratic issues to be solved: like the manager in charge of hiring for the division I'd be hired for is on vacation this week. Also, the team hasn't quite finished doing all the interviews for perspective members, but assuming that they don't find anyone *way* cooler than me, and that management will still let them hire me, I guess I've got a job at Apple. I'll let you know more when I know more!

01:22 am - Status It went well. Like really well. I have high hopes. Here's hoping! They told me that we should touch base either late this week (that'd be tomorrow) or early next week. The way I figure it is, if they call me tomorrow, that's cool, but otherwise, I'm going to wait until Monday to call them, because I have a whole bunch of things to do over the next few days, and if I get a response (either way) I'll probably have a hard time keeping my eye on the ball. As it were.
One of the things I found pretty interesting was that a bunch of the technical questions they asked me were CS61C style questions. That's the class that I'm teaching this semester for those of you keeping tabs at home. It was pretty awesome to feel so on top the questions. :) Actually, I may have a few ideas for exam questions to write now.

08:18 pm - Jobs Okay, Job update:
Pixar: Rejected! But they were nice to me and told me that if they'd had more slots, they would have been interested. And that I should apply when I have more experience. Nice people--once you finally get them to talk to you.
Apple: 5 hours and 15 minutes are scheduled for me to interview with 7 different people representing 2 different groups at Apple which are both interested in hiring me. I'm super excited about this. Send out waves of calming reassurance and awesomeness from Noon to 5:15pm tomorrow. Or waves of liquid hate, if that's your thing.

01:17 am - Random Interview Awesomeness. I totally stumbled upon an interview for Apple Computer today. And it went smashingly.
I was just giving my office hours for CS61C as usual, and this woman who turned out to work at Apple was sitting in the same alcove, talking to potential employees. After she was done, I asked her a few questions and talked to her for awhile, and after she heard what I am studying, what my emphasis is, that I'm graduating, and looking for a full time job, she asked me if I wanted an interview. I said "sure, when?" To which the reply was: "How about in 15 or 20 minutes?" I was kinda floored, I expected answers ranging from "tomorrow" to "a week from now".
Who was I to say no? The interview was supposed to last like 20-25 minutes. It took more like an hour. I had an awesome time talking to 2 apple engineers, who totally convinced me that I'd have an awesome time working in the computer graphics section of apple. It sounds like it would be totally sweet.
Anyways, when I finished, I went and talked to the Apple Recruiter about what to do next. Something like this was said: "So, do you email out people in a few weeks to tell them if they made it to the next round of interviews?" The reply being: "well, yeah, but I can tell you right now, they liked you, you're in the next round already. All you have to do is officially apply and you've got another interview coming up!"
Again. Floored. I thought I was under-qualified for an engineering position at Apple. I thought it was way out of my reach. The two apple engineers managed to figure out (more quickly than I did, I might add) that not only was I qualified, but also a pretty good match for the job. I went from not even thinking I had a hope at getting an interview for a job, to having an interview offered, which went well, and now I'm set up to interview in the next round. Round trip time from start to finish? About an hour and a half.
What an awesome day. Sometimes I feel like maybe it will work out for me, and I'm not so dumb after all. *knocks on wood*

02:31 am - Of briar patches and fence posts Life has its ways of expressing itself to you if you listen closely. It only speaks once, and often times very softly. I think it speaks as plainly as Mark Twain wrote. It says to you: if you dwell and overanalyze what I tell you, you will lose all of the meaning I have intended to give to you.
So sometimes, sit back, try not to try so hard to figure out what's going on, and let life speak to you. Sometimes in whispered tones, other times with such vigor and excitement that you would have to be unconscious not to understand what it's telling you. Then again, sometimes the times at which we can most clearly perceive what life tells us comes to us through dreams.
So don't be afraid to dream, and don't hold back. Current Mood: amazed Current Music: Colorblind, by Counting Crows

07:58 pm - Interviews and Matriculations So, here's the dealyo. There's a get together of sorts, 22 May 2005. Circa 2pm. I'll be walking across some sort of stage, wearing some sort of ridiculous cap and gown getup. Apparently I get a certain number of tickets free. Then there might be a charge afterwards? Or I might be able to get more free tickets later.
So anyone who's interested, and in town at that time, lemme know. I'll put you on my oh-so-exclusive list. And we'll sort out who gets to go and who doesn't. Certain familial units probably get priority, but I'm under the impression that getting more tickets won't be too much of a problem, so let me know if you wanna come. There's a free Champagne receptiony deal after the stage walky deal. Oh yeah, it's in the magic of Zellerbach. I don't guarantee that it will be anything short of a bunch of dressed up nerds. But hey, it could be fun.
In other news. I had my Pixar interview today. Round 1 anyways. Apparently they'll get back to me (either way) in a few weeks. Keep them fingers and toes crossed. I'll be needing all the luck and well-wishing I can get my hands on.

02:47 am - evenings and skydiving I had such a wonderful evening. So much wonderousness. I watched a heavy but good movie (Hotel Rwanda) with a wonderful person. Afterwards there was much hanging out, which was lovely too.
In other news, tomorrow I go skydiving. The weather looks good. I appear to have enough time. I'm really ready to go!
YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
And I'm going to hang out with the same ball of lovely tomorrow after skydiving. So sweet.
